This year marks the 50th Anniversary of The East Coast Chapter Tuskegee Airmen, Incorporated (ECCTAI). The ECCTAI is the oldest and largest chapter of the renowned Tuskegee Airmen, Inc. ECCTAI is dedicated to preserving the history of the original airmen, recognizing Black achievements in aviation, and promoting STEM careers in underserved communities. The Tuskegee Airmen were a group of Black United States Army Air Force (USAAF) pilots and airmen who fought in World War II. They formed the 332d Fighter Group and the 477th Bombardment Group.

ECCTAI’s 50th Anniversary began on March 23, 2023, with the Tuskegee Airmen Commemoration Day and official wreath laying. The ceremony was held at the United States Air Force Memorial and honored the surviving documented original Tuskegee Airmen. Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton presented Resolution 249 on the House of Representatives’ floor designating March 23, 2023, “Tuskegee Airmen Commemoration Day.” This resolution recognizes and celebrates the Tuskegee Airmen for their heroism, valor and exemplary service to our nation. On March 29th, the ECCTAI hosted a fireside chat and reception at Boeing Company, in Arlington Virginia.
Preserving Aviation’s Future
In addition to a significant anniversary, this year also marks accomplishments in securing the first ever Presidential Proclamation to be signed by President Biden in recognition of our Commemoration Day. An ECCTAI silent auction funding STEM scholarships and preserving the legacy of the Airmen will run through April 18th. It includes airline flight experience, Airmen collectibles, and autographed sports memorabilia. Visit https://one.bidpal.net/tacd2023 for more information.
