Tucked away in a suburb just north of Atlanta, Three Blind Mice is a much-needed respite in a land of chain eateries. This restaurant, wine bar and market serves up a North-meets-South menu with such dishes as Moules Marinières (steamed mussels with white wine, shallots and garden herbs)—a nod to the chef’s New England upbringing—and lowcountry shrimp and grits.

The cast-iron-seared scallops are the highlight of the menu, along with the marinated and grilled hanger steak served with cauliflower gratin. Tip: don’t leave without sampling the cinnamon-infused crème brûlée or one of the seasonal libations such as the maple bacon old fashioned with smoked bacon-infused bourbon (1066 Killian Hill Road, Suite 101, Lilburn, Ga.; 770-696-4139).
