Women have always had to fight to be seen and heard in America and no struggle has been more personal, or divisive, as abortion rights. In January 1973, the United States Supreme Court ruled in favor of a woman’s right to choose in the historic Roe vs Wade decision. Just under 50 years later though, the court looks to be prepared to repeal its original ruling. A leaked majority opinion on a case out of Mississippi hit the national news cycles just before Mother’s Day, ironically. It started in part that, “abortion decisions would be returned to the people’s elected representatives.” The document set off protests across the nation and sent the Court scrambling to investigate the source of the leak, saying in a statement that the document “does not represent a decision by the Court or the final position of any member on the issues in the case.” The land’s highest Court is expected to make its final ruling on the case this summer.
