Tamara: I begin my daily routine with affirmations and prayers as a means of setting my intentions. Furthermore, I am able to conduct the majority of my daily activities from the comfort of my home, including attending team meetings and engaging in client calls. The highlight of my day is the opportunity to spend quality time with my family and binge watch crime shows. My professional pursuits are centered around asset management and real estate, two fields that I hold a deep passion for. To ensure that I am able to attain my objectives, I prioritize self-care and endeavor to minimize my exposure to corporate culture.
Hammonds: Tell our readers what is the primary focus of your business?
Tamara: Mastermind MGMT is a distinguished talent management firm that exclusively represents celebrity hairstylists, makeup artists, wardrobe stylists, tailors, and barbers, with a particular emphasis on the fashion and beauty industries. Additionally, by placing transparency and advocacy at the forefront of our business practices, we are establishing a novel benchmark for the conduct of talent management.
Hammonds: Who holds the utmost importance in your business and how do you distinguish between your professional and personal spheres?
Tamara: My foremost priority is to cater to my clients. Additionally, I hold in high regard my brother Tirrell, my intimate circle of friends known as the ‘CAR’ crew, and my esteemed sisters from deltasigmatheta.org It is noteworthy that a significant proportion of my company comprises of members from Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., predominantly from my undergraduate chapter at the University of Miami.
Hammonds: You truly are ‘the Master of Closing the Deal.’ Tell us how people can safeguard the bag in various sectors.
Tamara: Don’t be afraid to set big audacious goals for yourself or your clients. Also, set them high and takes the time to put milestone goals in place that help you, and your clients reach those lofty goals. I also believe the higher you reach, the higher you will go. My strongest advice is to be accountable for your goals and your success.
Hammonds: Who are your examples of power coaches?
Tamara: Upon entering this field, I found that there was no clear model for success. As a result, I focused my efforts on starting a business, as I lacked any role models in this particular industry. Through previous experiences, I have learned many valuable lessons. However, the business models I encountered were vastly different, and none of them were representative of black women. Consequently, I had to conduct extensive research to identify individuals who were engaged in similar pursuits. Notable influencers in this regard include Kandi Buris, Donni Wiggins, and Mona Scott Young.
Hammonds: How did you connect with the legendary Law Roach, and what was one lesson that you earned from your friend, mentor and client?
Tamara: The most significant lesson to be learned from him is his exceptional work ethic. He is undoubtedly one of the most diligent individuals I have ever encountered. I have witnessed him expertly styling a client, promptly boarding a private jet to attend another styling engagement and returning without delay. His work ethic is truly impeccable. It is a valuable reminder that regardless of one’s current level of success, it is crucial to persevere and continue working diligently. One never knows when an opportunity may arise, and by consistently putting in the effort, one can reap the rewards of their labor in due time.
