Xscape

The 35th Annual Soul Train Awards, presented by BET, aired on November 27, 2022, and as expected, celebrities commanded the blue carpet in show-stopping numbers.

Following an over-indulgence in unwarranted family time and gangs of leftovers, we feasted our eyes on the best of Black Hollywood. Our favorite entertainers, including the ever-iconic group Xscape, who collectively won the Lady of Soul Award, came clad in many moment-defining looks.

The carpet set the tone for R&B’s most impressive vocalists to showcase their range, and they did not disappoint.

Ari Lennox applied pressure in a golden sheath set by Laquan Smith, Queen Naija was pretty in pink, and Candace Dillard sparkled at every turn in a sequined set by Karen Sabag. Here’s a look at how the lot fared.

They stole the show.

Now presenting the woman of the hours, Muni Long, who unequivocally mastered every single look both on and off stage.

The host with the most, Deon Cole, rocked the mic in several immensely cool ensembles. Suited to perfection, he opted for 2 traditional suits and 3 casual two-piece sets.

Ladies Looks We Loved

These sassy songstresses slayed without doubt; let’s give them the flowers they deserve.

This go’round, the men most certainly outdid the women, which is pretty difficult to do. They offered more texture, bolder patterns, and untraditional lines.

Men in Brown

A myriad of browns, nudes, and tans evaded the carpet, and the men put their own twist on the neutral.

Printed to Perfection

Prints easily elevate the simplest of garments, and these suited looks offer the class and precision necessary to own the carpet.

Honorable Mentions

These looks weren’t top of mind, but they deserve recognition.

While a handful of looks scrambled our brains, many celebrities got it right and delivered the star-quality we expect. Which looks were your faves?
