Atlanta’s fashion and philanthropy enthusiasts gathered in style under the stars on a balmy Sunday evening, August 27th, at Phipps Plaza to celebrate the inaugural Fashion Statement event. This highly anticipated affair seamlessly merged the worlds of fashion and philanthropy, offering a night filled with glamour, generosity, and heart. The event featured a live auction, a chic cocktail hour, and a breathtaking runway show, all with the noble aim of benefiting the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
Luxury retailers, including renowned names like Jimmy Choo, Balmain, Zimmerman, Zegna, Lafayette 148 New York, Byredo, Givenchy, Alexander McQueen, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Nordstrom, played gracious hosts by organizing private in-store shopping events. Patrons had the opportunity to explore and shop for high-end fashion while contributing to the event’s philanthropic mission. Champagne flowed, and hors d’oeuvres were served, creating an opulent shopping experience.

The festivities kicked off with a lively cocktail reception, bringing together Atlanta’s elite, with notable figures like Karyn Greer, Phaedra Parks, Sheree Whitfield, Marlo Hampton, and Dr. Courtney A. Hammonds gracing the Courts at Phipps Plaza. Guests were treated to curated cocktails and culinary delights from Davio’s, Ecco, and Citizen’s Market at Phipps Plaza, setting the perfect tone for the main events of the evening.

The highlight of the night was the Fashion Statement Finale, a show-stopping runway extravaganza held on Phipps Plaza’s lush greens. The runway showcased stunning designs from various sources, including the acclaimed fashion design program at the Savannah College of Art and Design, as well as Lafayette 148 New York and Balmain. The event was a testament to the fusion of culture, creativity, cuisine, and compassion.

In the spirit of giving, Fashion Statement successfully raised nearly $1 million. All proceeds from the event were dedicated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, the world’s largest nonprofit source of funding in the fight against breast cancer. Since its inception in 1982, the foundation has been instrumental in groundbreaking research, community health outreach, advocacy, and programs spanning over 60 countries. These efforts have contributed to a remarkable 40 percent reduction in breast cancer deaths between 1989 and 2016.
The event was masterfully orchestrated by April Milliken, the Founder and President of Eventologie, who served as the creative and executive producer. With two decades of experience in event production and fourteen years of involvement with Jeffrey Fashion Cares, she ensured that Fashion Statement was nothing short of extraordinary and impactful.

The event’s success was also indebted to the dedication of its esteemed co-chairs, including Marsha Archer, President and Founder of M-Squared Public Relations; E. Vincent Martinez, a Cuban-born mixed-media artist and creative force behind fashionado.net; and Louise Sams, a distinguished community leader and philanthropist. These co-chairs, along with sponsors and attendees, are resolute in their commitment to expanding the impact of Fashion Statement.
Moreover, Fashion Statement paid tribute to those who have made a significant impact in the industry. Don Purcell, a retail veteran with 25 years of experience at Jeffrey Stores USA, was honored for his contributions. In September 2021, he opened DON PURCELL, a concept gallery of modern fine jewelry, art, and luxury gifts in Buckhead Village Atlanta. The store features exquisite jewels from modern fine jewelry designers, making it a must-visit destination for the fashion-forward.

Adding to the event’s prestige, Provi Fulp, a 2023 Emmy Nominated costume designer, graced the event as an honorary guest stylist. Known for her work on the film “Magic Mountain Christmas,” starring Dolly Parton, Provi specializes in contemporary and period design, boasting over 12 years of experience in TV and Film. Her work has been featured in prominent publications, including Vogue, LA Times, POPSUGAR, Elle, Refinery 29, and Deadline. Her illustrious career journey began in retail and continued as an in-house stylist for magazines before transitioning into a full-time Costume Designer in the TV and film industry.
Fashion Statement 2023 was not just a glamorous event but a resounding statement of support for a noble cause. It brought together the worlds of fashion and philanthropy in an unforgettable evening of style, generosity, and impact, proving that fashion can be a powerful force for good.
