A Delicious Day in the Life of the Famous Restaurant

Oprah Winfrey's OWN Network has cooked up a dish that is equally as melodramatic as it is mouthwatering. The piping hot reality show, Welcome to Sweetie Pie's, is back for its second season of family fetes, fiery fights and fried fare. Thanks to Miss Robbie, Tim, Lil' Charles, Jenae and the well-skilled hands that give us the goods, Sweetie Pie's gives a new meaning to "all in the family." We recently visited St. Louis and Sweetie Pie's for an all-access, behind-the-scenes serving of the show and the restaurant's system of survival.

12:00 p.m. Arrival at Sweetie Pie's at the Mangrove. The aroma of fried chicken, candied yams, fresh baked breads and fruit cobblers great greets us at the door. Inside, melodic tunes are being performed by a jazzy duo of singers, while glasses clink and forks scrape plates during the lunch rush.

12:30 p.m. Access is granted. With complete pride and confidence, our tour guide, co-owner Tim, leads us into the kitchen to witness cheese being grated, pies being layered and batter being poured. Everyone is in great spirits as Lil' Charles tells jokes.

1:00 p.m. Lunch is served! We hit the serving line and start to salivate as we inch closer to the delicious delights. The Thanksgiving spread ain't got nothin' on this. This is also our first official greeting from co-owner and former Ikette Miss Robbie. "Get what you want and make sure you have some vegetables," she demands with a smile. We all load our plates with greens, mashed potatoes, fried fish, baked chicken, pork chops, rolls and an array of desserts. Wow, is this real?

1:30 p.m. Indulge! The band sings Whitney Houston's "Shoop" while we passive aggressively devour our food. When they notice us slowing down, Miss Robbie, Tim, Jenae and Lil' Charles joins us for a roundtable Q&A exchange. It's unanimous that Welcome to Sweetie Pie's has done wonders for both their business and personal lives.
During the convo, Miss Robbie proudly announces their statistics. They feed over more than 25,000 people a week.

2:30 p.m. Sneak Peek. We're shuttled to Sweetie Pie's: The Upper Crust for an exclusive sneak peek. Miss Robbie and the family show us the new location's offices, kitchen, serving line, ballroom and the patio. This place is going to be beautiful.

3:330 p.m. Sightseeing. Our gracious tour guides, Tim and Jenae, show us around their beloved city. The final stop is at Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center, the care center that so ably nursed Baby TJ for five months after his premature birth.
