Eddie Murphy leads an ensemble cast in the new holiday comedy ‘Candy Cane Lane.’ AMAZON STUDIOS

I rolled up to the Regency Village Theatre in Los Angeles, and the air was electric.  Excitement and anticipation filled the atmosphere.  All around me, hundreds were pouring into the premier of Amazon premiere of Candy Cane Lane, starring the legendary Eddie Murphy and the fabulous Tracee Ellis Ross.

Don’t let the title fool you—this movie is not your average saccharine holiday tale. Although the movie has its sweet moments, it throws in a dash of naughty and spice. It’s like Jingle All The Way and The Santa Clause had a joyous love child. The Carver family—Chris, Carol, Nick, Joy, and Holly — use their holiday adventure to learn the true meaning of family. Finally, a movie where a happily married couple enjoys being married!  In fact, the family benefits from the miraculous power of teamwork!

Destined to become a Christmas classic, Murphy’s first Christmas movie follows Chris Carver (played by Murphy) and family. Chris is obsessed with winning the neighborhood’s annual Christmas decoration contest. Little does he know, he accidentally strikes a deal with a mischievous elf.  Then, the devilish elf brings the Twelve Days of Christmas to life to elf-up Christmas.

Murphy isn’t the only star stealing the show. The supporting cast, includes Jillian Bell, Chris Redd, Robin Thede, D.C. Young Fly, Pentatonix, and David Alan Grier as Santa.  Consequently, each character brings the cray-cray and loads of laughs. Newcomer Danielle Pinnock flexes her comedy muscles and does not disappoint.  Not surprisingly, Director Reginald Hudlin, known for classics like House Party and Boomerang, made sure Candy Cane Lane had all the hardcore holiday elements. Then, Chloe Bailey tops it off with two covers on the soundtrack.

So, get ready to mark your calendars because Candy Cane Lane is spreading its festive cheer on Prime Video worldwide on Friday, December 1. And here’s an extra treat: there’ll be an official #LiveSPILL within the new Black-owned SPILL app at 6 p.m. PST / 9 p.m. EST.
