When Nikki Turner was a little girl, her grandmother allowed her to choose any book she wanted to read. That childhood practice, in part, is what has led to her current success as a bestselling author.
“After many years of exploring, I found there weren’t many books sans Iceberg Slim’s and Donald Goines’s that entertained me and my friends, so I wrote what I wanted to read: A Hustler’s Wife,” The New York Times bestselling author explains.
She says she values her loyal reader base and is happy to note that it spans generations.
“To hear adults say my book was the first book they’ve read or having three generations of women—daughter, mother and grandmother—share that they read my books together warms my heart,” Turner says, adding that her next book is slated to hit shelves in July 2020.
“I’ve been blessed to create a universe where my readers from all walks of life find my work relatable. Even when they have never stepped foot in the ’hood, readers get a first-class ticket to an urban literary safari.” —Y.C.
