Chlon Rogers, founder & CEO of Checkmate Business Management, along with colleagues YFN Lucci and Jay The Connect LLC, came together to establish The Romeo & Juliet Project. This project was a prom initiative established to reward a high school student and their date attending prom that excelled academically while facing adversity in their lives.
Prior to The Romeo & Juliet Project, Rogers visited Towers High School in Decatur, GA to speak to students about goal-setting, planning for success, and aspiring to be great in spite of their circumstances. By sharing her personal journey and expertise, Rogers encourages students to always strive for excellence and preserve. This experience sparked Rogers’s philanthropic passion which inspired The Romeo & Juliet Project.
To qualify for The Romeo & Juliet Project students had to answer a questionnaire detailing their personal goals, accomplishments, future plans, and grade point average. The main objective of this project is to inspire students to work hard for the things in which they desire.
Bria McPhee, a senior at Towers High School, was the winner of The First Annual Romeo & Juliet Project. McPhee won the title after effectively articulating her hopes, dreams, and future plans via the questionnaire. She also expressed her world concerns and how she planned to contribute in lacking areas within the community. McPhee plans to kick start her future at Georgia State University in Fall 2016.
The Romeo & Juliet Project included full prom attire for both McPhee and her date, all grooming essentials (hair, haircut, nails, and make-up), transportation, dinner reservations at The Sun Dial located at the top of the Westin Peachtree Plaza Hotel, a photo shoot, and documentary of her entire experience by a professional videographer.
The Romeo & Juliet Project will be returning next year, 2017, at a different high school, and each year thereafter. The mission is to motivate the youth by raising their expectations and encouraging them to be aware of and pursue their dreams.
