Upscale hosted friends, bloggers and other members of the media at a private dinner themed The Moroccan Experience. Imperial Fez, an authentic Moroccan restaurant in Buckhead, welcomed us as we looked forward to experiencing Moroccan culture up close.
Once inside, we were seated in the plush dining area decorated with richly colored sofas and pillows, ethnic motifs and dimly lit hanging lanterns. The owner, Chef Rafih Benjelloun of Fez, Morocco, greeted us with a quite informative account of the Moroccan culture. We were encouraged to eat without utensils in observance of the native tradition of using all of your senses when dining. We were also treated with a soft, rose scented water to wash our hands in preparation for dinner.
Bring on the five-course meal! We began with a combination plate of pickled carrots and banana peppers and then Harrira lentil soup – simply delicious! We moved on to a salad consisting of assorted veggies and then to B’stella, a pie stuffed with cornish hen, crushed roasted almonds, cinnamon and spiced eggs. Then there was the main course. Our group couldn’t decide which we enjoyed the most – the chicken with honey apricot almonds and sesame seeds, the baked tilapia with charmoula sauce, or the roasted lamb with vegetables and wild rice. For dessert, we enjoyed mixed fruit and baked Moroccan pastries.
We capped off the night with an amazing performance by the house belly dancers as we sipped on hot mint tea.
What a delightful experience! Thanks Imperial Fez!
