The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater goes on the road

The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, recognized by Congress as a vital American “Cultural Ambassador to the World,” will be in Atlanta from Feb. 16 through 19 at the legendary Fox Theatre. This year marks an exciting and historical year, as the company returns to Atlanta for the first time under new direction from artistic director Robert Battle. Atlanta audiences will enjoy an inspiring collection of innovative premieres, repertory favorites and Ailey classics that extend the vital legacy of Alvin Ailey, including Home, a bold new work by hip-hop choreographer Rennie Harris set to a soul-lifting score of house gospel music and inspired by the stories of people living with or affected by HIV; Arden Court, the romantic masterpiece by modern dance legend Paul Taylor; and Takademe, a high-flying and humorous solo by Robert Battle. Next, the company continues its North American tour in Sarasota, Fla.

Music's finest--and loudest--pay their respects and celebrate their peers

The 54th Grammy Awards kicked off last Sunday night in L.A., with a host of great performances that spanned from legends like Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder, the Beach Boys and Bruce Springsteen to new generation singers like Katy Perry, Chris Brown and Alicia Keys. And though this year showcased the best performances in years, the mood of the star-studded event was definitively somber, due to the untimely death of music icon Whitney Houston, who was found dead in her Beverly Hilton Hotel room just the night before.
