
Celebrated singer and icon Whitney Houston is dead at 48. So far, no cause of death has been revealed.
The superstar singer made her mark in the music world, selling over 170 million singles and album worldwide. In total, Houston has released seven albums and three film soundtracks and was set to star in the remake of the cult classic, Sparkle, to be released this summer.
Houston first appeared on the music scene with her acclaimed self-titled album in 1985, selling 25 million records and setting a new precedent in pop music with her remarkable vocal ability. Since then, she has won 30 Billboard Awards, 22 American Music Awards, and two Emmy Awards.
In 1995, she made a dent in Hollywood when she appeared onscreen as Savannah Jackson in Waiting To Exhale, based on Terry McMillan's bestselling book. She also starred in the romance, The Bodyguard, alongside Kevin Costner and the Preacher’s Wife with Courtney Vance.
She is survived by her daughter Bobbi Kristina.

Joyful Noise, starring Queen Latifah, Dolly Parton and Keke Palmer hits theaters Friday, January 13.
