When you’re tired, feeling unloved, unwanted, and disrespected what do you do? You become heartless, ruthless, and in a way…careless.
The Defense, written by Samantha Denäe, is a tale about 27-year-old Avery Middleton, who is new to Atlanta after leaving her abusive ex-boyfriend, Darren Malone. On the run to find who she truly is, Avery is convinced that being in committed relationships is not the way to go thus giving her various defense mechanisms when someone gets too close. Through twists and turns, Avery not only finds herself and begins to truly love herself for whom she is, but also learns that old habits really die hard once she meets Miles Hampton. When pushed against the wall we find out what Avery will do once she on the defense.
Beginning as a blog idea, writer and author Samantha Denäe decided to reach a little further to not only tell a bit of her truth in this novel, but a bit of every woman’s truth – which is no matter the hard times we endure the best love is self love and with self love comes true love.
The deeply rooted message of The Defense is to know you’re worth and accept nothing less than that. Throughout this novel audiences will get the chance to go into the mind of Avery Middleton and all that she has endured throughout her life amongst family, which includes a broken father-daughter relationship to being broken down to feeling worthless in her abusive relationship to her triumphant realization that she’s a confident, beautiful black woman who is not only deserving of love but capable to give love.
Samantha Denäe will launch her book, The Defense, this Saturday, July 18 at Aloft Hotel in Downtown Atlanta with a book signing from 12pm-3pm. Register for this free event at eventbrite.com by searching ‘The Defense Book Signing’. The Defense is also available on Amazon.
